The Rhode Island Legislature has declared 31 March 2025 as "Japan Day" in honor of Rhode Island-native Commodore Matthew C. Perry's expedition to Japan which resulted in the 31 March 1854 signing of the "Treaty of Peace and Amity". Reception in honor of the day will be at 3pm on 1 April 2025.

About the event
The Rhode Island Legislature has declared 31 March 2025 as "Japan Day" in honor of Rhode Island-native Commodore Matthew C. Perry's expedition to Japan which resulted in the 31 March 1854 signing of the "Treaty of Peace and Amity" (also known as the "Treaty of Kanagawa") to "establish firm, lasting and sincere friendship between the two Nations". The reception to celebrate the declaration of "Japan Day" will be held at 3pm on 1 April due to State House availability.
