Presentation on Commodore Perry's Opening of Japan in the museum and a Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) of the cherry trees by the NWC Museum and USS Constellation's anchor. JANAFA-Newport members who do not have access to the base should contact janafa.newport@gmail.com to arrange access.

About the event

Event will occur near the cherry trees by the NWC Museum and USS Constellation's anchor followed by a presentation on the Opening of Japan by Newport-native son, Commodore Perry. The event will be a no-host event and we encourage people to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. We will have bottled water available. Family members are welcome at JANAFA-Newport events. It is recommended people bring lawn chairs/blankets. Dress code is very casual (jeans, sweatshirt, t-shirts, shorts), but if you are coming directly from work, that attire is acceptable.
