Japan-America Friendship Festival - 25 OCT

Celebrate the friendship between Japan and the United States at the Japan–America Friendship Festival, part of Newport’s biennial Newport–Shimoda Sister City Celebration!

Join us at Touro Park for a day of cultural exchange and family fun. Experience the thunder of taiko drums, graceful martial arts demonstrations, hands on kids’ crafts, kimono photo moments, calligraphy, origami, and delicious Japanese inspired food trucks. Free event. Rain or shine. Meet local cultural organizations, explore vendor booths, and relax with music under the trees. This four hour community festival is designed for all ages—come learn, taste, and play while discovering the traditions and creativity that connect Newport and Shimoda. The Japan–America Society of Southern New England, Inc.® (JASNE) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization bringing together a diverse network of stakeholders to strengthen our ties, or “Kizuna” towards a bright and thriving future for our two countries.
